Choosing materials is one of main engineering disciplines. Currently there are more than 100,000 engineering materials, of which are 60,000 metallic materials and 40,000 non-metallic materials. That means it's very important to focus on the selection of materials for engineering design and parts.
Product usage and construction strongly depends on its success. Computer aided selection is used for a long time, but it is constantly improved. One of improvement fields is usage of Linked Open Data to achieve better selection based on multiple selection properties. Since it uses web technologies which enables users to be anywhere in the world and have access to data without need for periodical database updates.
CroLOD is framework which helps engineers to easily find such materials based on multiple search criteria and as a result offer both visual and textual comparison of material properties for easier selection.
