Drug Encyclopedia is a modern source of information about drugs for physicians and other professionals in healthcare. It is also suitable for educated public wanting the information about prescribed drugs. Visit http://www.lekovaencyklopedie.cz/EncyclopediaApp/#home;lang=en for the english version of the applicaton
In Drug Encyclopedia, we provide data which were not available linked to the medicinal products prescribed in the Czech Republic. We offer information about active ingredients, their indications, contraindications, pharmacological actions and interactions. All this information is available in structured form which enables various ways of data search and exploration.
We are using recent findings of research in computer science. We use the RDF and Linked Data principles when integrating data for Drug Encyclopedia. This approach allows us to work quickly with the data without the necessity of creating data models.
We use the tool Treex (http://ufal.mff.cuni.cz/treex/, developed at the Charles University) for the text processing. This tool can, e.g., transform words into the nominative or parse sentences. We also use GATE (http://gate.ac.uk/) for text processing. All these tools help us when extracting information from the texts.
Drug Encyclopedia currently uses the community version of Virtuoso (http://virtuoso.openlinksw.com/dataspace/doc/dav/wiki/Main/) and is completely build upon the RDF model. The web application was developed in the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) framework. We also combine HTML5 and RDFa in the application.
